Our Seniors Program

CURRENTLY. WE DO NOT HAVE A SENIORS PROGRAM

Many people are overwhelmed by the physical and emotional effort involved in visiting a shelter (and the expenses that may come with animal ownership). Sadly, this leaves many potential senior adopters without the unconditional love and companionship of a pet.

With that in mind and determined to find good forever homes for our senior dogs and cats, we've created our Senior Pets Program.

HOW DOES THE HVSPCA’S SENIORS PET PROGRAM WORK?

  • Trained “matchmakers” will find the perfect senior pet for your lifestyle

  • There is never an adoption fee (although donations are gratefully accepted)

  • The cost of yearly checkups and vaccines at one of our veterinary partners are paid for by the HVSPCA for the life of your new senior pet companion

So why adopt a senior pet? Senior animals usually wait at the shelter much longer that younger ones for their turn at happiness, even though there are many benefits to adopting an older pet. Here are just a few:

  • With established personalities, “what you see is what you get” with senior pets.

  • Older animals are already house-broken and trained – no surprises left behind the couch!

  • Senior animals generally have a lower requirement for exercise and are much calmer than a younger pet. They’re perfect nap buddies!

  • Senior dogs have manners. They’ve learned what "no" means so your shoes and furniture are safe from puppy chewing and scratching!

  • Older cats are loving, low-key lap warmers.

  • Senior pets settle into a new home faster. They know what it takes to get along with others so they will quickly be part of your family.

  • It’s been scientifically proven that having a pet is beneficial to your health.

  • When senior cats and dogs are adopted, they truly understand that they’ve been rescued and will reward their adopting human with tremendous gratitude.

And you don't have to be a senior yourself to bring one of these loving animals into your home.

Please consider putting adopting one of our lovely senior animals and become the animals' hero!
